

The community area, which may eventually house as many as 120,000 people, is subdivided into 14 districts. Each district will be largely self-contained and able to provide a full range of services and facilities to its residents.
Yanbu Al-Sinaiyah today is a far cry from the coastal desert that greeted the first site surveyors less than twenty years ago.
Today, in the city’s industrial park, world class refining and petrochemical complex convert oil and natural gas into products for export and into feedstock’s for local manufacturers.
Nearby, in beautifully landscaped neighborhoods, community residents enjoy excellent housing and a broad range of educational, health and recreational services and facilities. Industrial, commercial and residential development continues as private-sector investor exploits the excellent investment opportunities the city has to offer.
YANBU AL-BAHR:
Yanbu Al-Bahr is the old town 20 kilometers north of Yanbu Al-Sinaiyah. Originally a small fishing seaport, it has its charm and retains a friendly mixture of old and new buildings and has many historical features.
CUSTOMS AND CULTURE TRADITIONS:
The location of Yanbu’s religious facilities has been carefully planned as testimony to the Islamic character of the new community. Local mosques and prayer halls are situated within easy reach of individual homes, schools and work places. In keeping with their purpose, mosques are among the most beautiful buildings in the city.
A broad spectrum of cultural facilities are also available to community residents. These include a museum, libraries and various assembly halls that are used for such events as lectures, festival presentations and exhibits.
WEATHER:
Yanbu is blessed with sunshine all year round. Very warm and humid with little rain in summer. Fairly cool and dry with little rain too in the winter.
RECREATION & SPORT FACILITIES:
In a predominantly young community like Yanbu Al-Sinaiyah, recreation plays an important role. To satisfy residents’ leisure and recreation needs a wide variety of active and passive recreation facilities have been provided.
Residential areas, for example, are interspersed with playgrounds, parks and football fields. More specialized facilities such as tennis and squash courts, gymnasiums and swimming pools are located in larger sports centers.


RED SEA:
The reefs and under-water marine life of the Red Sea are the most beautiful and exotic found anywhere in the world. The Red Sea is world famous for its coral reefs and snorkeling, diving, sailing, windsurfing are all very popular. The Sharm, north of the town of Yanbu, is an excellent area for water sports and is extensively used for weekend family relaxation, sailing, diving, snorkeling and other recreational activities.

Naturally, there are marine hazards in the Red Sea. Sports enthusiasts must be alert to these dangers to avoid injury. They should be aware of basic first aid treatment in the event poisonous marine life is encountered. Employees and their dependents who wish to take up snorkeling or scuba diving are encouraged to obtain expert advice or enroll in classes before attempting the sport. There are active sailing and sub-aqua diving clubs.
BOATS:
Individual boat owners are required to register their boats with various Government authorities such as the Coast Guard and Yanbu Port authorities, etc. Boat operators must understand Coast Guard regulations and avoid off limit areas. Any employee wishing to become a boat owner should liaise with the SAMREF Government Relations Department to ensure all local regulations are complied with.

Over the past 15 years, a high-quality educational system has been evolving at Yanbu Al-Sinaiyah in step with community growth. Today, Yanbu Al-Sinaiyah’s education facilities and programs are widely recognized for their high standards and achievement levels. They include :
SHOPS AND COMMERCE :
As Yanbu Al-Sinaiyah grows, so does the number of commercial businesses serving the community. Many of these are to be found in the smaller neighborhood commercial complexes, while others are located in district centers.
Although local merchants offer a broad range of goods and services, the community’s expanding population continues to call for additional commercial services and a greater selection than are currently on offer.
To help meet this demand, the Royal Commission is leasing land to commercial developers at very reasonable rates. Space can also be rented in existing commercial centers.
A heavy commercial zone has been developed for such enterprises as automobile sales and service, cold storage and warehousing, and building materials suppliers.


PARKS AND LANDSCAPING:
As Yanbu Al-Sinaiyah is primarily a city of families with children, parks particularly local ones are very important. A complete hierarchy of parks serving individual neighborhoods, districts, and the whole community is being provided as an integral part of Yanbu’s cityscape. Moreover, the entire residential area is to be ringed by a greenbelt, portions of which are already planted.
Lush landscaping enhances not only the city’s parks, but also its housing, thoroughfares, and public buildings. This abundance of landscaping has earned Yanbu a national reputation as garden community.
